So the Consumerist has (rightfully) been all over the House of Wal for continually screwing up those ROLLBACK signs - you know, the ones that give a "before" and "after" price?As you can see - the price of Fanta has dropped dramatically! A whole no cents! How's that whole Save Money! Live Better! thing working out for you? (on a side note, who does not love the Fantantas? Kiki, Lola, Capri, Sophia!)
Well, I was night-owling it this week because I was bored and actually broke one of my cardinal rules (Thou shalt not visit the Wal-Mart unless on the schedule!). Imagine my giddiness to see one a perfect Consumerist-ready photo - just waiting to happen!
And then there was the overnight assistant manager standing right behind the Fanta display just yapping up a storm to the overnight support manager - oblivious to the fact that their sign was very, very wrong.
I had to wait for them to move, then grab a quick photo with my phone.
I know how these things happen. Someone is totally not paying attention - and either prints out the wrong ROLLBACK price or puts the wrong actual price in the sign. Still. Even for our non-English-speaking workforce, I would have thought that numbers would be fundamental. How many episodes of "Pinball Number Count" do we need to recognize basic numbers here?

While I do not love the Fantantas collectively, they are very hittable individually.
I've also seen rollbacks for a PENNY savings.
What's the point in that?
It's not impossible for a naughty customer to mess with the signs in order to be funny. It's not all that hard to switch them.
Just a thought.
guess it could be worse. the "was" sign could have been bigger than the listed price. :)
Our store had been selling Penmans sweat pants at $9.44 but a week later, they all had clearance tags on for $10.00. I thought was a hoot.

actually, rollbacks can drop in the system with a total markdown of 0.00 ... making the was price the same as the sell price. The problem is, if it's a rollback, then you have to sign it as such or you get your ass busted by someone who cares. It boils down to the buyers not doing their job right. imagine that, HO not knowing what they are doing ...
I think I'm kind of creeped out that you know the names of the Fantantas.
i was actually at wal-mart one evening when an associate was putting the "rollback shelf tags" on microwave popcorn. the tag said was $2.50, now $3.00.
i pointed out to the associate that the rollback price was higher than the original price, to which he just looked at me with this "undead" face and said, "i just put up what they tell me."
I saw one by the door one time where the rollback price was $10 or $15 more than the before price. It was funny to me, but management wasn't too amused and they fixed it.
