Maybe what they really wanted was T-shirts covered in yak hair but got mixed up between all the racks of crap Wal-mart sells and then got home and realized their mistake. I'd be annoyed, too.

Oh, I get that a lot, too. I have to roll a piece of packing tape around my hand and manually take the hair off myself. It's ridiculous.

Target I worked at wouldn't take back clothing with Cat hair or smoke smell on it. Then again, the Manager's actually knew how to say "NO"

What do you guys do with the returns? Does any of it make it back to the shelves? Who decideds what to do with it?

I always feel guilty when I return something because I'm afraid it just goes in the trash, regardless of the condition.

@ ebay rookie

If it's just cat hair/smoke smell, it goes back on the floor. This is at a nice department store where I work, even. Even though someone who is allergic to cats might pick it up and try it on.

The customer service associate will decide what to do with the merchandise. Managers can't be bothered with menial tasks.

But do not use this as a way to clear your conscience when returning something disgusting. If you do this, you are evil.

When you have 77 cats, there's really no way to get the hair off.

I"ve never taken anything "gross" back. I'll only take clothes back if the tags are still on.

I did take a threashold for a door back yesterday, but only because it was an inch too short - It was opened, but I had all the hardware and instructions that went with it.

Before that, I don't remember the last thing I've returned.

Some stores (not WM) seem to save up and sell the returns by the crate (or whatever) to eBay resellers.... Victoria Secret is one of them-- I bought a pair of sandals, "NIB", with tags still attached, from one such reseller, for about 25% of the original price.

On the other hand... Fryes (electronics store), which is just across the street from the WM closest to me, seems to put returns back on the shelf directly from the Returns Counter... even items returned because of defects. I'm told that is because they figure eventually, somebody won't want to bother returning it, defective or not. We've learned never to buy anything there that isn't in a factory-sealed box....
