Tuesdays are the new Sundays at Wal-Mart. Apparently, thanks to a "quirk" in the scheduling program, we don't need many cashiers on Tuesdays. So, the computer gives a lot of people Tuesdays off. This, as we learned, was a VERY VERY BAD mistake today.
Coupled with the fact that ELEVEN people on the schedule decided not to show up, we had about nine registers open. We never even got the speedy registers or the self-checkouts on the GM side open. I had to cover lunches on the Service Desk and in Layaway. And I somehow lost $5 from my till.
To paint a picture of how bad it was, nobody got their second break, both of us morning supervisors only got half-hour lunches (AGAIN) and some of the cashiers got their lunches 90 minutes late. NOBODY got a second break because there was literally no one to sub in on the register in their place. We finally had to put two other supervisors on registers just to give the poor cashiers some relief. This is what comes of having a computer do the scheduling. And back again tomorrow.
